The Shami plant is a species in the family Fabaceae. It is native to the arid regions of Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The botanical name of the plant is ‘Prosopis Cineria’ and its leaves are bipinnate (leaves arising on both sides from the same axis). The plant is drought-resistant and can survive tough weather conditions as well. The tree is of great importance among Hindus and is worshipped during the festival of Dusshera at the end of Navratri.
